How can I propagate a Ginkgo biloba plant?

I cannot find the seeds. Does the plant root easily if I use the cuttings? Are the rooting hormones really essential?

How can I propagate a Ginkgo biloba plant?
First of all, if you are looking for the seeds of a Ginko, make sure you are looking on the female tree. Ginkos are diecious, meaning they have both male and female trees. The females are easy to spot because they STINK. Thier fruit contain buteric acid, which after a few days in the sun, begin to smell like rotten milk (or butter, hence the name).

Planting a seed may or may not work depending on the variety, a lot of times the seeds become sterile after the trees get crossed to form different varities.

Ginkos are super slow growing trees, so using cuttings probably wont be the easiest way to go, but that doesnt mean it wont work. Use some good rooting hormone and a lot of patience and you may get rewarded.

Good luck.
